Happy TT – an engineer’s heaven! 🏍️

We hope you’re having a safe one and getting out and about to take in some of the festivities. If you’ve a young one who loves all things fast, do also check out our story here as an inspirational flashback to McLaren Automotive’s supercar visit to the Island back in February.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for something more sedate for the kids to get stuck into over the half term break, head right here to find out about Unesco Biosphere Isle of Man’s Young Nature Writer COMPETITION💥

In conjunction with IOM Media, Manx Ornithological Society and Manx Wildlife Trust, Love Tech are hugely proud to be supporting this comp – a development of Unesco’s previous Young Writer Competition.

It’s aimed at anyone 21 or younger, and has been designed to give young people in the Isle of Man the opportunity to creatively express their love for the natural world 🌿

And of course… there are PRIZES! These include a uniquely tailored nature experience for the overall winner, plus a wonderful trophy.

🍃 Check it out now – we can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.

And, as for other EXCITING EVENTS…

If you’ve a child aged 8-14, stick Saturday August 3rd in your diary for our next…

SUMMER OPEN DAY!

#TeamLoveTech getting hyped for last year’s Summer Open Day!

Finer details are being well-oiled (like Peter Hickman’s 2023 Senior TT winning FHO BMW superbike😃) but with AI and other exciting topics on the menu, this is hotting up to be thrilling!

Tickets will be bookable shortly after TT and all details will be released on our Facebook page and our website – so stay… well-tuned!

And in other news…

This month we’ve been busy hyping our brand-new Resources Pages.

Kindly put together for us by the web development team over at Vivid Unity, these are vibrantly laid out and full of inspirational information.

They’re therefore perfect for girls and young women who might be considering a career in STEM but want to learn more about options and where their unique skills might fit.

And – you can help us!

Please share these pages around and do let us know if there’s info we’ve missed that you’d love to see.

If you want to learn more about some of the incredible #womeninSTEM already working in our Island, you can take a peek at out our mentors’ page here too.

Let’s smash those STEM stereotypes together 💫

Speaking of mentors…

Throughout May we celebrated our Mentor of the Month, Energy Transition, Renewable and Nuclear Engineer, Lizzie Riley 🪫

Since graduating with a Geology degree from Imperial College, London, she’s carved out a fabulously varied and exciting career, upskilling along the way and finally landing at Manx Utilities. Here her role is Energy Transition and Programme Manager for Energy Transition.

Want to learn more about how she did it?

Watch her Love Tech interview here.

You can also click here to read her full bio.

“We do not have to become heroes overnight, just a step at a time, meeting each thing as it comes up, seeing it as not as dreadful as it appears, discovering that we have the strength to stare it down.” Lizzie’s favourite wise words, Eleanor Roosevelt.

Remember to visit May’s social media posts to discover more about Lizzie’s challenges and recommendations too 🌟

So to finish up – other exciting things that have been happening for #TeamLoveTech this month…

Love Tech is actively on the lookout for new committee members to help shape our programmes and inspire the next generation of female scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians in the Isle of Man.

Love Tech committee!

And of course, we’re always on the lookout for women in STEM living in the Isle of Man who’d love to join an award-winning charity as mentors. Contact email as above – share your skills and connect with others!
