Where you can add value

Love Tech desperately needs support from inspirational women just like you!

All we ask is that you commit to dedicating as little as 3-5 hours a year to our cause.

Here are the key areas where we most commonly need help**:

STEM Spark

STEM Spark has been kindly sponsored by PwC Isle of Man and is our flagship primary school programme – but we need bodies to make it work! Are you therefore willing to commit to supporting at least 1 assembly or facilitating at least 1 workshop in your chosen profession each year? If so – we’d love to hear from you.

Code Club

Love Tech and Code Club often work in close partnership. Recently, thanks to a fantastic donation from The Elizabeth Clucas Trust, we’re now taking this a step further, offering specific coding classes to various schools and educational groups around the Island. If you’re techy and can spare some time to getting involved, let us know!

High School Assemblies

Occasionally Love Tech is invited into the local secondary schools to talk about our work. This is a brilliant opportunity to directly connect with older children — especially girls who might be on the cusp of making career decisions and are in need of guidance.

Sitting on Industry Panels

From time-to-time Love Tech gets the opportunity to put together a team for industry panels. From secondary schools to industry events, this offers a perfect space to showcase your industry expertise whilst demonstrating how women can also smash those STEM ceilings.

Running Events

Are you a STEM industry professional with an educational urge you’d love to explore? Then why not chat to us about running your own event – or participating in one of our events as a workshop facilitator? Either way, if you’d love to share your knowledge in this way, we’d love to support you.

“Hey, I’m Kirsty, a mentor for Love Tech and the Senior Meteorological Officer at Ronaldsway Met Office. I really enjoy being a Love Tech mentor as it gives me the opportunity to connect with students who are interested in Meteorology and or explain what subjects and degrees would be useful to study. There is nothing better than trying to encourage young people into becoming weather geeks like myself!”

Helping us out at Events

A large part of what Love Tech loves to do includes events. Whether one offs or annual affairs, like our Summer Open Day, we always need extra pairs of hands – people with knowledge and expertise who can inspire and empower our young attendees to explore STEM opportunities.

STEM festivals and career fairs

STEM professions are rapidly evolving, and we need more women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. That’s a fact – because if women don’t keep up, the gender gap will only grow. STEM festivals, graduate and school career fairs are therefore a brilliant way for you to share your passion and inspire and encourage the next generation of women in STEM.

1:1 Mentoring

From time to time, we receive requests for specific career 1:1 mentoring. This is usually for secondary school girls looking to gain experience in a particular area. However, the bulk of our work is usually a more widespread mentoring – meeting children and letting them be inspired by what women are achieving in these traditionally male roles.

Share your STEM story!

Love Tech invites all our mentors to share their STEM story. This means being featured on both our website and our social media campaigns. You’ll also get your moment to shine with our Mentor of the Month campaign — great for your portfolio as well as a huge inspiration to girls and young women in our local community.

Inspire and empower the next generation of Women In STEM — get involved today!

Why Love Tech needs women, just like you, passionately supporting the next generation of women in STEM!

“On average, across Europe, 41 percent of girls with role models report an interest in STEM subjects, compared to 26 percent of girls without a role model.”

STEM roles are on the rise, yet girls are still rejecting these hugely in demand — and often traditionally male professions. Gender parity in the workplace is therefore a serious issue — which is precisely why we need women, just like you, to help us address it.

Through being a Love Tech Mentor you’ll get to meet girls and young women from all over the Isle of Man; to share your passion, demonstrate your skills and be inspired as well as inspire!

*If you don’t qualify as a mentor, don’t worry, we still need volunteers!

**DBS checks are mandatory for all mentors.
