September newsletter 2025

September has been full of inspiration, with trailblazing stories and role models reminding us just how powerful and exciting a career in STEM can be here on the Isle of Man.
We were thrilled to shine a spotlight on Isla Spencer, Reese Dalugdugan, and Lucy Gilmore — three pioneering young engineers making history on the Isle of Man’s Snaefell Mountain Railway. In a field traditionally dominated by men, these talented women are bringing fresh skills, perspectives, and energy to the engineering world. Hearing their journeys and aspirations has been nothing short of inspiring, and we loved sharing their stories with our community.
Our Mentor of the Month for September was a throwback to Martyna Wilk, Software Developer and dedicated Love Tech mentor. After graduating from Jagiellonian University with a Master’s in Computer Science, Martyna has gone on to build an incredible career in tech while continuing to inspire the next generation. Her passion, expertise, and mentorship make her a shining example of the impact women can have in STEM.
And looking ahead, we’re excited to announce that Women in Tech Week 2025 is just around the corner! Join us for Women in Tech – Code, Courage and Change on Thursday 16th October, 5.30–7.30pm at MannBenham’s event space in Douglas. This free networking and panel event will feature four of our amazing mentors — Harley Garrett, Georgia Wilson, Jenni Devine, and Natalie Gallagher — each sharing their stories, challenges, and inspirations.

🚂 Trailblazers on the Tracks: Inspiring the Future of Engineering ✨

This summer, we were proud to spotlight three incredible young engineers making history on the Isle of Man’s Snaefell Mountain Railway: Isla Spencer, Reese Dalugdugan, and Lucy Gilmore.
In a field that has traditionally been male-dominated, these three women are bringing fresh perspectives, skills, and energy to engineering on the Island — and we couldn’t be more inspired by their journeys.
🔧 Isla Spencer (20) – completing a 12-month placement
⚡ Reese Dalugdugan (21) – joining through the Isle of Man STEP programme
🔩 Lucy Gilmore (22) – working as a Summer Student Engineer
We had the privilege of interviewing Isla, Reese, and Lucy, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing their stories in reel form across our channels. From the challenges they’ve faced to their hopes for the future, these women are a shining example of how the next generation is helping to reshape the face of STEM.
