April Newsletter 2026

April Newsletter
April has been another exciting and impactful month at Love Tech, filled with curiosity, connection, and hands-on experiences as we continue our mission to empower women and girls in STEM across the Isle of Man.
This month, we’ve been out in the community inspiring the next generation through initiatives like STEM SPARK, including a brilliant session at Bunscoill Ghaelgagh in Ramsey. It was fantastic to meet so many enquiring young minds, asking thoughtful questions about ICT and even exploring how everyday items like T-shirts are designed. Moments like these highlight just how powerful curiosity can be in opening the door to future STEM pathways.
We also delivered our Cloud Busters at the Met Office event a truly memorable experience that gave young people the chance to step behind the scenes and discover how weather forecasting really works. From meeting experts to exploring real-world applications of science, the energy and enthusiasm throughout the day was incredible, and a reminder of how impactful hands-on learning can be.
Alongside our events, we’ve continued to celebrate and spotlight role models through our Mentor of the Month series, recognising inspiring women like Melissa Hutton, who are helping to shape the future of tech and empower the next generation through their stories and experiences.
As always, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, partners, mentors, schools, and supporters. Your continued support enables us to keep creating meaningful experiences and making a real difference across the Island.

Cloud Busters: A Day of Weather, Wonder & Curiousity
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Cloud Busters at the Met Office event – what an incredible day it was!
We loved welcoming so many curious young minds to explore the fascinating world of weather. From discovering how forecasts are made to going behind the scenes at the Met Office, the day was filled with energy, enthusiasm, and plenty of great questions.
It was especially inspiring to see young people engaging with real-world STEM in such a hands-on way, bringing science to life beyond the classroom and sparking new ideas about future possibilities.
A special thank you goes to the fantastic team at the Met Office, along with Love Tech Mentor Kirsty Wilding, for delivering such an insightful and engaging experience for our attendees. Their passion and expertise made the day truly memorable.
At Love Tech, creating opportunities like this is at the heart of what we do, opening doors, igniting curiosity, and helping young people see just how exciting a future in STEM can be.

STEM SPARK: Curiosity in Action in Ramsey
We had the pleasure of meeting some incredibly enquiring minds at Bunscoill Ghaelgagh in Ramsey — and what a session it was!
From the moment we arrived, the room was filled with curiosity, creativity, and brilliant questions. Pupils were eager to learn more about the world of ICT, exploring how technology shapes the things we use every day.
One of the standout moments? A deep dive into how T-shirts are designed — from initial ideas and digital creation through to the final product. It sparked some fantastic discussions around design, technology, and the many different career paths that bring ideas like this to life.
It’s always inspiring to see young people making connections between what they learn in the classroom and the real world. Sessions like these are exactly what STEM SPARK is all about — igniting curiosity, encouraging questions, and showing just how exciting a future in STEM can be.
We can’t wait to see where their curiosity takes them next 🚀

Mentor of the Month: Melissa Hutton
It’s time to celebrate our Mentor of the Month, and this month we’re shining a light on the brilliant Melissa Hutton, an IT Solutions Engineer and valued member of the Love Tech Mentor Programme.
Melissa specialises in Technology, and her career journey is a great example of how exploration can lead to real clarity. By keeping her options open early on and gaining experience across different areas of IT, she’s built a strong, well-rounded skillset — and discovered where her true interests lie.
Her role today involves solving complex problems and, just as importantly, translating technical solutions into something people can actually understand. It’s a powerful reminder that communication and curiosity are just as important as technical ability in the world of tech.
✨ Fun fact: Melissa once attended the same primary school as John Lennon — and even met one of The Proclaimers on Douglas beach!
💭 Words of wisdom: “Comparison is the thief of joy.”
