FREE Half Term Tech Fest description

NEW DATE ANNOUNCED – Love Tech’s Tech Fest event will be held at the Promenade Suite in the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre, this Friday 29 October from 9.30am-12pm! This FREE educational event is open to all young people between the ages of 11 and 18 and aims to help attendees to learn more about local jobs in tech and immerse themselves in tech-focused activities first-hand.

There will be various stations to visit on the day, including an Oculus Quest II VR experience, a display of retro technology by the Isle of Man Vintage Computing Group and a chance to try your hand at coding with Code Club. Various local tech companies will be hosting stands at the event, including space company ManSat, app developer Memory Lane Games, international software companies Derivco and PDMS, cyber security and technology company Riela Cyber and Riela Tech and digital training and skills company Readynez Isle of Man. The British Computer Society, who is sponsoring our grand prize on the day, will have a stand too, as will the University College Isle of Man, who will be showcasing their various technology-based courses on offer.

There is a QR code treasure hunt for attendees to take part in on the day and all those who complete the treasure hunt will receive a swag bag filled with goodies sponsored by Derivco Isle of Man and there will be a prize draw for the completed cards, with the grand prize being an Oculus Quest II VR headset sponsored by the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT!

There will also be a panel of ‘techperts’ talking about their jobs and what it takes to pursue a career in tech. The panel includes computer game designers for socially-conscious app games, cyber security experts, crypto-currency experts and digital forensic analysts who use technology to stop criminals in their tracks.

Thank you to Digital Isle of Man for covering the cost of the room hire at the Villa.
