Lisa Karran panel speaker – Survival Skills for Future-Proof Recruitment for your Business

Join Love Tech’s very own committee member and COO of ‘Creative 3D Web’, Lisa Karran for this interesting panel event about a changing landscape and the future of recruitment, guiding attendees through a number of key areas, including:

• Soft skills for the future of work

• The future of workplace training

• Training for change and just-in-time learning

The event will be led by Manx Radio’s Beth Espey, who will be joined on the panel by Anne Murray (Recruitment Manager at Search & Select), Dee Copley (Human Resources Business Partner at Zurich), Lisa Karran (COO of Creative 3D Web and Committee Member of Love Tech), and Sue Gee (Managing Director of TLC Business Solutions).

Mini STEMfest Follow-up Event

Location: Manx Telecom HQ

We are joining forces with PDMS, Swagelock and Manx Telecom, to run a Mini STEMfest event at Manx Telecom HQ on the 24th January. This private event has been arranged for pupils from Laxey and Dhoon primary schools, who unfortunately couldn’t make the Villa Marina event last year, due to the terrible flooding and school closures that occurred in Laxey village.

Game Development Workshops

Location: Eagle Lab, Douglas

We are very excited to be bringing two award-winning leaders in educational game development to the Island to run workshops for younger and older children. They will lead workshops on developing games from deciding the concept through to pitching the game to judges.

Book Club

Location: Henry Bloom Noble Library, Douglas

The latest Love Tech Book Club event celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

Girls between 7 and 16 are encouraged to visit the library between 2nd October and 2nd November, sign up for a library card and borrow a copy of “A Galaxy of Her Own” by Libby Jackson from the Love Tech table at the library. The book can also be purchased from Waterstones from a Love Tech table.

At the event, three women working in STEM on the island will chat about their careers and the book. Prizes will be awarded for answering questions about the book and we will also hold a raffle where 2 Sphero Mini app-enabled robots can be won!

Astronomy Evening

StemFest

Location: Villa Marina, Douglas

We will be running an interactive zone at this event with the island’s schools. The event is hosted by Isle of Man Engineering and Manufacturing, and Love Tech will be heading up the IT Zone. STEMFest is being run to inspire young people into STEM careers and to showcase the companies operating on the Isle of Man.

Festival of Research

Location: The Nunnery

Research Vannin is dedicated to celebrating all things research, and bringing together the people who are doing it, planning it, or engaged in it. We know there’s amazing research going on in every corner of the island, be it academic, industry, a job requirement, or personal interest. This festival is a chance to bring you all together and promote the importance of being curious.

Location: Barclays Eagle Lab

Join the Love Tech volunteers for a free, fun-filled day of science experiments, 3D printing, virtual reality, robot balls, arts and crafts, microbit coding, puzzles and more. Doors are open from 12pm to 3pm.

All ages are welcome.

Love Tech Book Club Meetup

Location: Henry Bloom Noble Library, Douglas

On 27 April 2019 we will be hosting a special event at the library, where three incredible women who work in the STEM on the island will be chatting about their careers, as well as about “Girls Who Rocked the World”, our first Love Tech Book Club book selection. Prizes will be awarded for answering questions about the book at the event and we will also be holding a raffle where 6 Sphero Mini app-enabled robots can be won!

For girls between 9 and 16 years old.

Love Tech Easter Open Day

Location: Engine House, Castletown

Join the Love Tech volunteers for a free, fun-filled and interactive afternoon of science experiments, puzzles, 3D printing, virtual reality, robot balls, arts and crafts, coding, and more. The Love Tech team will be there to talk more about what STEM careers look like for the next generation and we will have some Love Tech mentors at the event to show how it’s done, talking about their careers in STEM on the IOM! Doors are open from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at the Engine House, Castletown.
