Cloud Coding – Love Tech X Met Office

Location: Isle of Man Met Office, Ronaldsway Airport

Calling all budding Meteorologists! Are you interested in the weather? Would you like to see where all the weather forecasts for the Isle of Man are issued from? Then come join Love Tech at the Ronaldsway Meteorological Office on Sunday 3rd July.

The event kicks off at 11.00am with a session for Year Groups 5 and 6 followed by a 12.30pm session for Year Groups 7,  8 and 9.

Event Safety 

All equipment will be provided, as well as a safety briefing beforehand for younger volunteers. Beach Buddies has full public liability insurance.

Hear from a programme of inspirational speakers, all of whom have graduated and then relocated or moved back to the Island and are now making their mark in their respective fields of the Island’s economy. Keep your eyes peeled for announcements via the Locate Isle of Man social channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn) and Eventbrite.

WORKSHOP SESSIONS

2:10pm – 2:35pm: Graduate Employability Skills Masterclass

This session will provide an introduction to the Graduate Employability Training Programme which offers young people the opportunity to enhance their workplace skills through a free, two-week training course.

Spaces on this workshop are limited and bookings must be made in advance.

3:30pm – 3:55pm: Graduates Guide to LinkedIn

The ‘Graduates Guide to LinkedIn’ workshop will be held by Alison Teare; experienced LinkedIn Trainer and Marketing Manager for Locate Isle of Man, to discuss the best way to leverage LinkedIn for your career.

Love Tech does TikTok

Location: Heartbreak Motel

Love Tech is holding the Isle of Man’s first ever TikTok event! Come along and learn how to create tiktoks using the funky backdrop of Heartbreak Motel!

There will be 6 sets where you will be allocated a 15 minute time slot in each!

Time slots will be 11am-12.15pm, 12.45pm-2pm and 2.15pm-3.30pm.

Tickets are £2.50 each with all funds going to Love Tech to help us continue running our STEM events.

This event is for age 13-18 year olds!

Due to event space, parents are to drop children off no earlier than the start time of their ticket and collect at the end. Our friends at Windsor Coffee is offering a treat if you pop along there while you wait!

Please bring your own device to record TikToks.

Drinks will be available for £1 per can. Please note this is an alcohol free event and LoveTech IOM condemns underage drinking. Please bring cash for drinks.

There are limited tickets which is why we are charging a small fee to help raise funds for the charity.

Reminders will be sent two days before the event.

Prizes will be available for the best TikTok made in each set by sharing your TikToks using the hashtag #lovetechtiktok2022

VICE Cards will be available on the day with instructions and online safety around tiktok.

FREE Half Term Tech Fest

Location: Promenade Suite - Villa Marina, Douglas

NEW DATE ANNOUNCED – Love Tech’s Tech Fest event will be held at the Promenade Suite in the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre, this Friday 29 October from 9.30am-12pm! This FREE educational event is open to all young people between the ages of 11 and 18 and aims to help attendees to learn more about local jobs in tech and immerse themselves in tech-focused activities first-hand.

There will be various stations to visit on the day, including an Oculus Quest II VR experience, a display of retro technology by the Isle of Man Vintage Computing Group and a chance to try your hand at coding with Code Club. Various local tech companies will be hosting stands at the event, including space company ManSat, app developer Memory Lane Games, international software companies Derivco and PDMS, cyber security and technology company Riela Cyber and Riela Tech and digital training and skills company Readynez Isle of Man. The British Computer Society, who is sponsoring our grand prize on the day, will have a stand too, as will the University College Isle of Man, who will be showcasing their various technology-based courses on offer.

There is a QR code treasure hunt for attendees to take part in on the day and all those who complete the treasure hunt will receive a swag bag filled with goodies sponsored by Derivco Isle of Man and there will be a prize draw for the completed cards, with the grand prize being an Oculus Quest II VR headset sponsored by the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT!

There will also be a panel of ‘techperts’ talking about their jobs and what it takes to pursue a career in tech. The panel includes computer game designers for socially-conscious app games, cyber security experts, crypto-currency experts and digital forensic analysts who use technology to stop criminals in their tracks.

Thank you to Digital Isle of Man for covering the cost of the room hire at the Villa.
